Leading racecourse catering specialists, Letheby & Christopher, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has introduced a range of unique biodegradable tumblers for use at Newmarket Racecourses, plus Letheby & Christopher’s two Festival courses, Cheltenham and Goodwood.
The non-plastic tumblers, supplied by specialist firm Biopac, are manufactured using cornstarch and are not only 100% biodegradable, but also ‘smash-proof’ and compostable.
Bob Reeves, Managing Director Racing and Motorsport at Letheby & Christopher said, “Letheby & Christopher serves over 550,000 drinks in traditional plastic tumblers a year at Newmarket and, even though the empty tumblers are recycled, this partnership with Biopac will significantly reduce the long-term impact of plastic on the environment.”
Endorsed by the Metropolitan Police, the Biopac tumblers provide an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional polycarbonate tumblers and also cost less than half the price.
In addition to Newmarket, other premier courses are using the unique tumblers, including Cheltenham and Goodwood, with further rollout planned. Biopac tumblers help to promote these racing venues, while demonstrating their individual commitment to the environment.

Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials has announced that Nissan Motor GB Ltd will be the official supplier of vehicles for the ground jury and key officials at this year’s event (11-14 September 2008).
After partnering the Chatsworth International Horse Trials for the last two years, Nissan wanted to extend its involvement in the sport and saw Blenheim as the ideal opportunity. The partnership was brokered by Revolution Sports Marketing Group.
“We are delighted to team up with such a prestigious sporting event,” commented Nissan’s Managing Director, Paul Willcox. “Eventing provides the perfect backdrop for us to engage with a really focused audience, many of whom have an every-day need for reliable, robust 4×4 vehicles.”
Nissan will sponsor three fences on Eric Winter’s new cross country course and provide the judges dressage ‘boxes’ in the main arena in the form of the reputable king of off-road; the Nissan Patrol.
“We are really pleased to have Nissan on site as the Official Car Supplier for this year’s event,” said Mandy Hervieu, Event Director. “They have a great reputation as excellent towing vehicles – an essential requirement for many of our visitors.”
