Newmarket in the Pink

Newmarket was today in the pink at the official opening of The Pink Bar, a brand new venue which is a partnership between the racecourse and specialist caterer, Letheby & Christopher, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland.

Housed in a former Tote facility, the bar is built on an innovative business model, with Letheby & Christopher investing in the three-month build and then sharing the resulting profits from the venture.

Bob Reeves, Managing Director for racing and motorsport at Letheby & Christopher said, “This is a model we hope to replicate at a number of racecourses we work with across the UK. At Newmarket we have taken what was formerly an under achieving area and increased returns and royalties, and will, in the future, build it into a ‘must attend’ mini-enclosure with a premium ticket value.”

The long term future of The Pink Bar looks bright. Following a soft launch at the end of June, sales have been above initial projections without impacting the traditional Lanson Champagne Bar behind the main grandstand. Despite the credit crunch it would seem that customers are still willing to pay for a premium branded product.

Enhanced Menus Unveiled at Flat-race Sponsorship Seminar

Filed under: Racing — admin @ 6:03 pm

6 July 2008

ANY idea about the nutritional value of food served up on racecourses?
Caterer Letheby & Christopher is providing the answer at Newmarket, where enhanced menu designs, incorporating nutritional colour coding charts, were unveiled at a special Flat-race sponsorship seminar.

The designs, which provide information on a customer’s guideline daily intake of calories, sugar, fat, saturates and salt, will be rolled out across other major courses where L&C operates, including Aintree, Cheltenham and Goodwood.

L&C’s racecourse catering MD Bob Reeves said: “The quality of the produce used at Newmarket is enhanced by its provenance, because we work closely with a number of local suppliers and farmers to source the very best from within a local radius of the course.”
