Cheltenham’s official caterer, Letheby & Christopher, will be the new sponsor of today’s Letheby & Christopher Steeple Chase Challenge Cup.
Today’s race is the longest of the entire Festival at 4m 1f, by coincidence the exact length of the 50,000 sandwiches that, if laid end to end, the caterer will sell during the four day event!
With 23 declared runners in the Amateur riders contest, the Martin Pipe-trained Basilea Star, who has been lightly raced this year, looks sure to start favourite. The Christie Roche-trained Far From Trouble is also certain to attract strong attention with solid form over distance chases in Ireland and ridden by the infamous Mr J T McNamara.
Bob Reeves, Managing Director, Racing & Motorsport at Letheby & Christopher said, “Letheby & Christopher has been involved with The Festival for over 25 years and we are delighted to once again be sponsoring such a prestigious race.
“As well as serving sandwiches we serve racegoers with over 3 tonnes of smoked salmon, 46,000 bread rolls, 18,000 bottles of Champagne and 8,000 galloons of tea and coffee – The Festival week is our busiest period of the year and an exciting time for our 3,500 staff.”
As part of the company’s overall commitment to supporting horse racing as a sport, as well as individual racecourses, the caterer will also sponsor the Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes at Goodwood in May, the Letheby & Christopher Silver Salver Trophy at Newmarket in August, and the Letheby & Christopher Festival Trials Meeting at Cheltenham in January.
Letheby & Christopher has been providing the catering for Cheltenham racegoers for over 25 years and are one of the few operators in the sports catering industry capable of handling the logistical challenges presented by events such as the Cheltenham Festival.
Letheby & Christopher will also be supporting its sponsorships with a ‘best turned out’ award at each of its races. As well as a cash prize of £100, each winning stablehand will be also presented with a silver photo frame.
